Nuclear Power Plant

I had many opportunities to learn about nuclear power plants in first grade's class. I was also interested in nuclear power plants because I have experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake.  Japan is not a resource rich country so it has been using imported resources from abroad for thermal power generation and other purposes. Furthermore, the Great East Japan Earthquake caused a nuclear accident so Japan quitted nuclear power generation.  It is true that nuclear power has the risk of a disastrous situation if an accident occurs, but it has various advantages. Unlike thermal power, nuclear power does not emit CO2. Therefore it has less impact on global warming. In addition, uranium which is used as fuel exists all over the world. It can be supplied in a stable manner. In European countries, children have to learn about atoms. This is why the people understand about nuclear power and the country is able to operate nuclear power plants because of people's trust and permission. ...

The world that needs to change

I usually watch the news on social media and TV. Recently I saw that tensions are rising between Ukraine and Russia. It was very impressive to me.  There are also other reports of conflicts in the world. It hurts me and I think that there are people suffering from war on the same planet. I am living a peaceful life with no inconvenience. We should appreciate the life we lead now because there is no war and no need to worry about food.  In Uyghur, China, human rights problems are happening. However the government regulations are strict and it is hard to help the suffering people. Because of the various problems, other countries are not able to help them. I really hate that kind of world and want change the world, but I don't know how to change because I am a very small being on the earth.

My respected grandfather

I have grandparents who are almost 80 years old. They have taken care of me since I was little and have been very protective of me. I still visit my grandparents frequently and enjoy eating and talking with them.     I have been walking dog with my grandfather since my childhood. My grandfather likes to go for walks so he used to take me. He turned 80 last year but he is full of energy and still takes long walks with me. On our walks, I listen to his interesting stories and hardships. He talks about a lot of interesting and exciting episode so I felt that the longer people lives, the more interesting people experiences.     My grandfather lost his father when he was a child and had a very hard time but he studied hard and worked diligently. I have great respect for him. One of my favorite episodes is that my grandfather used to go back to his hometown to help his mother with her work every time he had a long vacation when he was in university. ...

I need to vent

The third term is over and it was tremendously difficult. I had to take two math courses and two physics courses. In addition, I had to take a physics lab.    These physics experiments were very difficult. First of all, we have to prepare for the next experiment every week using the textbook and videos. When we do the experiments, we have to do a lot of steady work. When the experiment is over, we have to submit a report by the next week.    I also had a part-time job, but it was so hard that I thought about quitting. I also wanted to participate in club activities, so I was very busy. Two math courses and two physics courses are also busy for homework.     I thought that university students could lead a more carefree life, but it was quite busy. However, in the fourth term, I had more time to spare. I am very happy that I have more time to do what I want.

Playing the Piano

I often choose songs that I like and want to play on the piano, and search for sheet music on the Internet to play them. The piano songs I have been practicing are mostly my favorite anime songs and classics.    I usually listen to music when I am studying or traveling on the train, and sometimes when I am listening to music, I suddenly feel like playing it on the piano. At that time, I look up sheet music on the Internet and start practicing. However, in the middle of practicing, I sometimes get satisfied and start practicing other songs.    I first played the piano when I was in the first grade of elementary school. My mother taught me Flea Waltz. After I learned to play that, I practiced the Turkish March next. Now I am practicing With Love In My Heart composed by Chopin.    Practicing the piano is a lot of fun. When it's your first time playing a piece, it takes quite a long time to get used to reading music and so on, but that's part ...

Scientific American: To Better Persuade a Human, a Robot Should Use This Trick

Robots can do a lot of things. They can build cars, they can put products on the shelves of a grocery store, they can They can process COVID tests in automated labs. But can a robot change your mind? Well, that depends. Because a new study shows that robots are more persuasive when they’re presented as a peer, as opposed to an authority figure. Every year we’re seeing more and more robots, in greater numbers of tasks and environments around our world. So robots don’t have the luxury of just being functional anymore.    To engage with the humans, they also have to be relatable. For example, imagine a robot helping out in a care facility…delivering a meal or dropping off meds. In nursing homes, residents often do not want to eat or take their medications. Therefore, the caregiver must sit there and have a conversation with them for 10, 15, or 20 minutes to convey the importance of the medication.    In fact, for a robot to do such a job, it would have...
